* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Nicene Creed – Ecumenical Version)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING AND LORDS PRAYER
One: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: People of God, lift up your hearts to the One who calls to you.
All: We open our hearts to the One who invites us to listen.
One: Offer praise and thanks to the One who is with you right now.
All: Our voices unite in praising and thanking God, who loves us!
The minister continues…It is truly right and our greatest joy…who forever praise the glory of your name:
All: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!
The minister continues…You are holy, O God of majesty… we speak of that mystery we call faith:
All: Christ died, to pull aside the curtain of death; Christ rose, to reveal the promise of new life; Christ will come again, to show us the face of God.
The minister continues…Gracious God, as we gather around your Table…We pray in your triune name as we were taught to pray:
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION
UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Loving God, you call us to your merciful, gracious love freely given without expectation or strings attached. While we are eager to experience your mercy and grace in our own lives, we are quick to make our extension of our mercy and grace conditional for others. We would rather show mercy to those we judge worthy. We would rather extend grace to those who will show us grace in return. We would rather love those who are easiest to love. …Silent prayers of confession… Forgive us, Redeeming God. Transform our hearts with your amazing grace and unconditional love, that our relationships are transformed as we extend your mercy and grace as an expression of our gratitude for your saving love that we know in Jesus Christ. Amen.
* ASSURANCE OF PARDON
One: God’s grace overflows and brings us new life. Friends, trust the good news: through the grace of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

MESSAGE Rev. Melissa Upchurch
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (fr. A Brief Statement of Faith, PCUSA)
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.

Holy God, you have given us the Creation in which to work, play, explore, grow, and thrive. You have given us food for survival and pleasure; also, air, water, fire, and cold. * HYMN Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Sustaining God, you lead us through parched wilderness places to streams of living water, but we do not root ourselves there in health and wholeness. We ignore your rich provisions, choosing the world’s latest fad and shallow self-help. Remind us of our spiritual needs and the many ways you are here to provide. Amen.

MESSAGE Rev. Melissa Upchurch

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
One: It is not true that this world and its inhabitants are doomed to die and be lost;
All: This is true: for God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him shall not die, but have everlasting life.

One: It is not true that we must accept inhumanity and discrimination, hunger and poverty, death and destruction;
All: This is true: I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
One: It is not true that violence and hatred shall have the last word, and that war and destruction have come to stay forever;
All: This is true: for to us a child is born, to us a son is given, in whom authority will rest, and whose name will be Prince of Peace.
One: It is not true that we are simply victims of the powers of evil that seek to rule the world;
All: This is true: To me is given authority in heaven and on earth, and lo, I am with you always, to the end of the world.
One: It is not true that we have to wait for those who are specially gifted, who are the prophets of the church, before we can do anything;
All: This is true: I will pour out my Spirit on all people, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young people shall see visions, and your old folk dream dreams.
One: It is not true that our dreams of liberation of humankind, our dreams of justice, of human dignity, of peace, are not meant for this earth and its history;
All: This is true: The hour comes, and it is now, that true worshippers shall worship God in Spirit and in truth.
