August 29th Worship

 Hello Friends-

Some of us are still Worshipping in the Sanctuary, dress casual (the A/C still has issues), wear masks and socially distance.

Some of us prefer to Worship from home, the Zoom link is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86016159653?pwd=UzVTdmZmS0ZUaDNEa0lXVVFRZGJLdz09

Dress however you want, no mask needed and you will definitely be socially distanced!
The bulletin in the next post will be helpful to follow along as you join in Worship.

Gentle Faith: We will only have in-person class this week due to technical difficulties on my part. We will add another table, wear masks, socially distance and do our best. We will wrap up chapter 4 of the Dialogues on Race book (pertaining to Indigenous peoples), watch the dvd again, and as a group do a "bridge-building" exercise.

God's blessings,
Carol

CALL TO CONFESSION
UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, your truth is often hard to hear. We confess our avoidance, our purposeful distractions, and our prideful arrogance that keeps us from hearing and responding to your Word. Although you send us messages and messengers, we dismiss and disregard those who tell us when we are wrong…silent prayers of confession…. Have mercy upon us, Holy God. Open us to hearing the truth no matter how it is conveyed. Amen.

* ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: If anyone is in despair, take heart in this: God renews us by the Word of truth; he implants the word of hope, the word of grace, and the word of forgiveness in our hearts. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! May this good news comfort you and give you peace.

All: Thanks be to God; Amen!

* GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

MESSAGE Rev. Melissa Upchurch

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From A Brief Statement of Faith)

We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image, male and female, of every race and people,

to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation.

Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Amen.

August 22 Worship

 Hello Friends-

Last Sunday, the congregation decided to go back to hybrid Worship due to the rise of Covid-19 cases in Madison County (and most other places, too).

This means........

1) EITHER you can still Worship in the Sanctuary, with masks, socially distanced. Dress casual as the A/C still has issues. Please print the attached bulletin and bring it with you.

2) OR you can Worship online with the following Zoom link:

The attached bulletin will be helpful to follow along as you join us.

Please be patient as we shift gears :-)

We will not have Gentle Faith this week. Because the Dialogues on Race curriculum works best in person, we will put it on pause. However, there are many resources on Racism that we can pursue in a hybrid format, so stay tuned!!!

God's blessings,

Message                                                       Rev. Melissa Upchurch

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From A Brief Statement of Faith – PC(USA))

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.  The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church.  The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all  ministries of the Church.  In a broken and fearful world the spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.   In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch  for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
