WELCOME
* CALL TO WORSHIP (From Psalm 116)

One: I love the Lord, because God has heard my voice and my supplications.
All: Because God heard me, I will call on God as long as I live.
One: The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.
All: Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, save my life!”

* OPENING PRAYER

* HYMN Purple Hymnal #375 Shall We Gather at the River

CALL TO CONFESSION
UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful God, we confess that we have not followed your way. We protect what is important to us, and neglect what is important to you. We preserve our own way of life at the expense of others. We have refused to be tamed by your wisdom ... silent prayers of confession…Forgive our inability to recognize you and live out the reality of your gospel. Give us the insight we need to understand your place in our lives so that our words and actions reflect your glory to others. In the name of the Messiah we pray; Amen.

* ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. In the name of Jesus Christ, all who have fallen short will be forgiven, redeemed and restored to God’s path of righteousness. Amen.
All: Thanks be to God. Amen!

* GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

TIME WITH YOUNG DISCIPLES

MESSAGE Rev. Melissa Upchurch

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Belhar Confession)

We believe in the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who gathers, protects, and cares for the church through Word and Spirit. This, God has done since the beginning of the world and will do to the end. We believe in one holy, universal Christian church, the communion of saints called from the entire human family…

We believe that Christ’s work of reconciliation is made
manifest in the church;…[and] that God has entrusted the church with the message of reconciliation through Jesus Christ. [Amen].

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Holy God, take these gifts and bless them for good use to your glory. May these tokens of our gratitude be of service in blessing the poor, feeding the hungry, and clothing and sheltering those struggling to survive. Use these gifts to further Christ’s mission and ministry in a hurting world. Amen.

THE EUCHARIST

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING AND LORD’S PRAYER

One: May the God who plants us by streams of living water be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Open your hearts to the One who does good for us all the days of our lives.
One: We offer them to our God who feeds us with joy and hope.
One: Children of God, express your thanksgiving often.
All: Our hearts overflow with gratitude
to the One who offers us the cup of grace.

The minister continues… You considered chaos … we lift our voices in praise:

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All creation sings of your steadfast love. Hosanna in the highest!

Blessed is your Child who comes among us. Hosanna in the highest!

The minister continues… We glorify you, God of holiness … and we proclaim that he is the bread of life:

Christ has died;
Christ has been raised;
Christ will come again.

The minister continues… Pour out your Spirit upon those who gather in this place … Now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

BREAKING THE BREAD

COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE

One: Let us go to walk the road of service.
All: We will feed others with God's hope.
One: Let us go to break down the walls of resentment.
All: We will join the Servant of the world in embracing the refugees of despair and fear.
One: Let us go to teach kindness in our world.
All: We will gather up our sisters and brothers, and rest in the Spirit's peace. Amen.
